FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Who do you see? What ages do you treat?

We provide care exclusively for adolescents and young adults ages 14–24. This age-focused model allows our clinicians to develop deep expertise in the developmental, social, and academic context of this specific population.

What happens at the first appointment?

Your first appointment is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, typically 90 minutes. We will review your personal and family history, current symptoms, academic and social functioning, and any previous treatment. At the end of the evaluation, we will share our impressions and discuss next steps, including a preliminary treatment plan.

Do you offer telehealth appointments?

Yes. Telehealth appointments are available for established patients throughout Florida. Initial evaluations are conducted in person, but follow-up medication management and therapy sessions may be available via telehealth depending on clinical appropriateness.

Do I need a referral to schedule?

No referral is required to schedule an appointment at Cortex Mental Health. You may contact us directly to request an initial evaluation. Some insurance plans may require a referral for coverage purposes—please check with your insurance provider if this is a concern.

How long does it take to get an appointment?

We strive to see new patients within 2–4 weeks of their initial request. Wait times vary depending on current availability. If you have an urgent concern, please let us know when you submit your request and we will do our best to accommodate you sooner.

Will my parents be involved in my care?

Family involvement is encouraged for younger patients, particularly those under 18, but we are mindful of patient autonomy and confidentiality. For patients 18 and older, parental involvement is at the patient’s discretion. We will always discuss involvement expectations with you at the start of care so everyone understands what to expect.
